We have a comprehensive and varied Wider Learning offering for Ada Lovelace students
Our Wider Learning offering reflects the beliefs of the 10:10 ethic: that we all have good within us, we all need to seek out teams and communities to help us to develop, and we all have a responsibility to share our good gifts and skills with the communities we are a part of.
Students have the opportunity to develop their skills over time by belonging to a wide range of extra-curricular clubs, activities and projects. There is a huge range of opportunities in our Specialism areas of Computing, Sports, Music and MFL as well as some linked to other subjects such as Philosophy Society, Creative Writing society, maths challenge training, chess and board games, craft and create clubs, STEM extension programme and much more.
Every year there is a school production (most recently ‘High school Musical’, ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘Oliver’), which are always a huge success – an amazing way to build confidence and friendships, and a source of joy to those both on and off stage.
Ada Lovelace has many thriving sports teams with staff and external coaches supporting them – girls’ and boys’ football, basketball, netball, tennis, athletics, and cricket to name a few.
The KS3-5 TfL ambassadors worked hard last year to maintain the TfL Gold award for the school, leading projects which encourage sustainable travel, care for the environment and stewardship of our resources.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is offered to Year 10 students (Bronze award) and over half of each year group chooses to take part each year.
To participate in wider learning is a core expectation at Ada Lovelace, reflecting our school motto of ‘Make the Leap’; never just doing the minimum but developing into people who make the most of every opportunity. Students achieve positive conduct points for their involvement in extra-curricular activities and Wider Learning, and are celebrated regularly in assemblies, tutor times and community home.
Student leadership
We have a wide-ranging student leadership programme with Prefects in Year 11, KS5 T level student leaders, and student ambassadors throughout KS3-4. As well as student leadership many of our students take up roles as peer coaches, mentors and role models to our younger students, including the very successful Year 8-Year 10 peer mentoring programme. Our students are our greatest champions and act as hosts and guides at school events, open evenings and awards ceremonies.
