Term started with the excitement of moving into The Annexe – a temporary block behind the café area. The Annexe houses all Ada Lovelace tutor groups for morning and afternoon registration, as well as staff offices, but is available to the whole school community for morning lessons. This separate building with Ada Lovelace branding throughout is enabling us to have an enhanced sense of being a school within a school. The area between the new café extension and The Annexe has been landscaped giving us much-needed additional play space too.
Appropriately enough, the new site on Park View Road in Ealing made great leaps over the summer with all the remaining metal structure being in place soon after the start of term. As anyone who has walked or driven past on the North Circular will have noticed, this was swiftly followed by wide staircases and pre-cast slabs for the floors, roof and walls which were then fixed into place on site using liquid concrete.
In common with many construction projects we held a short topping out ceremony to celebrate reaching the highest point of the building at the end of September, led by the Area Dean and attended by LDBS, DfE, governor and staff representatives. The external brickwork and windows are being installed on the main teaching block in the next few weeks. We are pleased to report the contractor is still confident of making progress in line with their contract programme to meet the summer 2020 deadline for completion. The next milestone for the building work is getting completely weather tight so that internal works can be started.
